Two Coffees. Three Stars. One Proud Team.
We're absolutely thrilled to announce that two of our single origin coffees have been recognised at the Great Taste Awards 2026 — the most respected food and drink awards in the UK, judged blind by hundreds of industry experts.
- 🇳🇮 Single Origin Nicaragua — San Juan del Río Coco — ⭐⭐ 2 Stars
- 🇵🇪 Single Origin Peru — Tambopata Valley — ⭐ 1 Star
The judges described our Nicaragua as: "There is a journey of flavour here, and it is a pleasure to take." And our Peru earned: "An inviting toffee apple aroma, with brown sugar and green apple coming through."
We couldn't be prouder.
What Are the Great Taste Awards?
The Great Taste Awards are run by the Guild of Fine Food and are widely regarded as the gold standard in food and drink accreditation. Every product is tasted blind — no branding, no backstory — by a panel of over 500 judges including chefs, buyers, restaurateurs, and food writers. A Great Taste star isn't given lightly. Only products that genuinely deliver exceptional quality make the cut.
For a small, independent roastery like ours, this recognition means the world. It's validation that the care we put into sourcing, roasting, and crafting every bag is making it into the cup.
The Coffees That Won
🇳🇮 Single Origin Nicaragua — ⭐⭐ 2 Stars
Our Nicaragua comes from the mountainous region of Madriz in San Juan del Río Coco — a name that translates to the river that nourishes its rich volcanic soil. Smallholder families, each farming just a few hectares, grow their coffee under the shade of native trees at up to 1,800 metres. The cherries are sun-dried on raised beds, a process that concentrates the natural sweetness and complexity of the bean.
In the cup, you'll find vanilla, citrus, and cocoa — bright and layered, with a creamy, round body and an elegant finish. The judges' verdict said it all: a journey of flavour. We think so too.
🇵🇪 Single Origin Peru — ⭐ 1 Star
Our Peru hails from the Tambopata Valley — a biodiverse region nestled between the Andes and the Amazon Basin. Indigenous farming communities have worked this land for generations, using sustainable methods that honour both the soil and the ecosystem. At altitudes up to 1,750 metres, the cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness and naturally processed, developing their characteristic sweetness and depth.
The result is a coffee with red fruit, citrus, and sugarcane — syrupy and rich, with a clean, lingering finish. The judges picked up on the toffee apple aroma immediately. Once you try it, you'll understand why.
Our Roasting Philosophy
At Souter Bros., we roast in small batches to order. We don't believe in sitting on stock — coffee is a perishable product, and freshness matters. Every bag is roasted to bring out the best of the origin, not to mask it. We use a medium roast profile for both of these coffees, which lets the terroir shine through without tipping into bitterness.
We source directly and responsibly, working with farmers and cooperatives who share our values. The Great Taste Awards are a recognition of the entire chain — from the farmers who grow the cherries, to the communities who process them, to us roasting and getting them to your door.
